Hiring - Frequently asked questions

What does the hiring process look like?

Our process typically includes the following, from time to time it might look different and we always include the hiring process on each role on our careers page:

  • Application with questions to complete

  • Interview with the Hiring Manager

  • Interview with a peer or small team panel

  • A paid task/ assignment with feedback

  • Finally a final call with a member of our CXO team

Can I use AI tools in my application or interviews?

You can use AI as a tool, but we're really looking for your voice and your thinking. The applications and interviews that stand out show us how you uniquely approach problems, what your actual experience has taught you, and how you communicate. AI can help you organize your thoughts, but your perspective and creativity are what help us understand if we'd work well together.

How does Doist handle LLM/ bot applications?

Leveraged AI is really important in the Tech SaaS industry, but we are not interested in interviewing an LLM. We only interview humans, by humans. If you leverage AI in any part of your application, please tell us, we value transparency and always inspired by innovative ways to get work done.

What should I expect in the interviews?

You'll meet with three people from our team in separate conversations. These are genuine discussions about your experience, how you work, and whether we'd be a good mutual fit. We're not looking for rehearsed answers – we want to understand how you think and what you'd be like to work with.

Do I need to complete the application task?

Yes. The application task is one of the most important parts of our hiring process. We pay you for completing it because we respect your time and because it gives us real insight into how you work, think, and communicate. This isn't a formality. It's your chance to show us what you'd bring to the role.

Why does Doist have an assignment or task step during the hiring process?

We enjoy gaining insight into what its like to work with you. We are constantly adding new cultures and skills to Doist, having an actual task or assignment to assessment, and engaging on the topic, really enables us to experience what interesting skills, competencies or culture-add you will bring to our environment. It has served us very well over so far to build the amazing team that we have today.

What if I don't know the answer to a question?

Just say you don’t know. We value authenticity over perfect-sounding responses. If you haven't worked with a specific tool or faced a particular situation, tell us. Then explain how you'd approach learning it or handling it. That's far more valuable than a generic answer that could come from anyone.

How will Doist communicate with me during the hiring process?

You'll always receive communication from an official @doist.com email address. If you get an email from a different domain claiming to be from Doist, it's not us.

What gives me the best chance and is the best way to land a job at Doist?

Apply directly via our careers page and answer all our application questions with your own creativity and your own ideas. We unfortunately do not accept any unsolicited job applications via email or dm in social media platforms, its therefore vital to only apply via our careers page.

How does your remote, asynchronous work model function?

We are a globally distributed, fully remote team. We use asynchronous communication as the default, meaning you manage your time and deep work without the expectation of an immediate response. Meetings are rare, and written communication is prioritized.

What does "building a sustainable company" mean to Doist?

It means we focus on long-term stability over rapid, unsustainable growth. We are proudly bootstrapped and profitable, allowing us to prioritize product quality, user well-being, and a balanced work environment for our team.
