Why we are building a platform
Our mission is to empower humanity with simple yet powerful productivity tools. Our vision is to become the end-to-end productivity platform that helps a billion people bring their ideas to life.
To reach that scale, we need a strong B2B engine. And to build that engine, Todoist must become much more valuable to teams.
Today, Todoist is loved by millions. But for many teams, it still solves a small part of the work journey.
The problem
Work doesn’t begin with tasks. It begins with people discussing ideas, making decisions, delegating ownership, doing the work, and learning from what gets done.
For most SMBs, that loop is broken.
Conversations happen in one tool. Tasks live in another. Decisions get buried. Follow-ups depend on memory. Repeatable work is done manually. The average SMB leader ends up spending about 30% of their time on tasks outside of their area of expertise, with admin tasks, customer support and project management consuming the most time.
Enterprise tools like Slack, Microsoft, and Google have started circling this problem. Their attempts confirm the market opportunity. But they've never actually built for SMBs, and they're not going to start now.
SMBs account for 90% of the entire world’s businesses and they deserve a simple yet powerful platform that helps them coordinate and execute work without needing an IT department, 500 employees, or an enterprise contract to get them there.
That is the Todoist Platform.
The platform
Comms is where work begins.
It gives teams a focused place to discuss, decide, and preserve context. Unlike chat or email, Comms is not a stream of messages. It is communication that turns into tasks, knowledge, and momentum. Without it, action items stay buried in threads and decisions have to be reconstructed from memory.
Todoist is where work becomes clear.
Decisions and action items flow into tasks, projects, priorities, and ownership. Each person knows what matters. Managers get visibility without status-chasing. The team can trust that discussion leads to execution. Without it, Comms is just another chat tool.
Automations is where work starts doing itself.
Today’s automation tools are too technical, fragile, or expensive for SMBs. By simply describing what should happen, connecting the tools teams already use, and letting routine workflows run, we make automation simple enough for anyone. Without it, the loop stalls every time a repeatable task hits someone's plate.
Agents belong here too
The Todoist Platform will be built for both people and agents. But agents should not replace the platform, they should use it just as seamlessly as humans.
Comms gives agents context. Todoist gives them structured work. Automations give them reliable rails for doing work safely, repeatably, and cost-effectively. As agents become capable of performing real work, the teams that win will be the ones whose tools were built to include them from the start.
The Progression Loop
Shape → Capture → Do → Review.
Each product must earn its place independently. But together, they compound. Comms brings context. Todoist brings clarity. Automations bring leverage. And as that loop gets tighter, small teams become capable of things that used to require ten times the headcount.
That is how we get to a billion people.
